White topaz is an excellent choice if you are looking for a white stone that's a bit more gemmy than rock crystal. Although it lacks fire, with its clarity, high brilliance and vitreous lustre, it delivers impressive sparkle. In fact, topaz takes such a high polish that it can feel slightly slippery to the touch. The price is reasonable which means that large stones are highly affordable whilst the material retains a gemstone pedigree. The material I have is superbly clean and untreated (white topaz is only rarely treated - sometimes heated to remove colour casts).
